Concept Definition
An ontology is a formal representation of the knowledge by a set of concepts within a domain (here: "multimodal plasmonic logic gates") and the relationships between these concepts. These concepts and relationships are based on the way humans represent knowledge, reason (e.g. through rules and building relations of sets and sub-sets) and solve problems. An ontology defines the semantic of a domain allowing (i) the automatic recognition and disambiguation of topics and concepts in raw text, image or video and (ii) the application of reasoning for further identifying new associations and facts.
